Plot:
1960 gjorde "Orfeu Negro" ett unikt hattrick när den som första film i historien
erövrade alla de tre största filmutmärkelserna - Guldpalmen i Cannes samt både
Oscar och Golden Globe för Bästa utländska film. Endast två filmer har lyckats
upprepa denna sagolika bedrift sedan dess. Därtill blev filmmusiken en braksuccé,
och fick hela världen att dansa till den nya flugan bossa nova. På ett genialt sätt placerar regissören Marcel Camus den mytologiska kärlekshistorien om
Orfeus och Eurydike mitt i slummens Rio de Janeiro.

Han är livsälskaren alla kvinnor avgudar, hon är en blyg lantflicka på flykt undan
en mordisk förföljare. Deras öden sammanflätas under ett dygn av extatisk karnevalsyra där precis allt kan hända - utom det förutsägbara. Upplev musiken, rycks med av rytmen, känn hettan och smärtan och låt dig förtrollas av en av historiens mest älskade filmer!

Plot:
In Rio, Orfeo is a trolley conductor and musician, engaged to Mira.
During Carnival week, he sees Eurydice, who's fled her village in fear of a stalker; it's love at first sight. Her cousin Sarafina, with whom she stays in Rio, is a friend of Orfeo and Mira, so the star-crossed lovers meet again. Later,
during the revels, wearing Sarafina's costume, Eurydice dances a provocative samba
with Orfeo. Not only is Mira enraged when her rival is unmasked, but she is being
stalked by Death: Eurydice is in danger, pursued through noisy crowds and a morgue. Can Orfeo conduct her to safety? Don't look back

Orfeus kunde med sina toner förtrolla inte bara levande varelser utan också klipporna. För att återhämta sin döda hustru Eurydike begav han sig ned till underjorden och bevekade med sin sång dess härskare att ge henne åter. På uppfärden förlorade han henne dock, då han bröt sitt löfte att inte vända sig om. Orfeus blev enligt sagan levande söndersliten av extatiska backanter.
