While Sue plies the family with food from Alf’s kitchen, and Rachel starts Italian evening classes in order to recapture what she had learnt in her 20s, Paul and Sam agree to help Robin learn more about Cherry’s new estate agent boyfriend, Iain. By the time the big family meal rolls around, however, and Sue has invited even more people, Alf begins to suspect that Sue is more interested in feeding her family and friends than she is in him, and Paul is put on the spot by Iain’s estate agent colleague

Series 2
E01 Dad's Old Boat
Life is changing for the Jessops. Sue is downsizing and having a big clear-out, Amy is back from Norway and pining for the fjords, and Rachel has started her new university course. When Paul’s old boat turns up in Sue’s garage, he decides to take the family out on the water. Who knows, it might cheer Amy up a bit. Meanwhile, Rachel is keen to convince her new classmates that, despite being literally twice their age, she’s one of them. She’s planning to do this via the traditional art of the student drinking game.
E02 Granny’s Street Fayre
Sue’s moved in with the Jessops. She’s lost no time installing herself into the local scene, starting by organising the street fayre with neighbour and pillar of the community, Edgar. The street fayre hasn’t been great, historically. It’s mainly been a way for locals to eat cupcakes and complain about loft extensions. But Sue has bigger plans. She’s getting in zorbs, a bring-and-buy sale, and a chap who can walk on his hands. It’s going to be slaps. Meanwhile, aspiring copper Paul tries to solve a disgusting crime.
E03 Amy's Valentine's Flowers
It’s Valentine’s Day, and various people have received anonymous cards and/or extravagantly large bunches of flowers. Naturally, suspicions run high in the Jessop household. Meanwhile, trainee police officer Paul has a brilliant plan to ingratiate himself with the CID lads. All he has to do is pretend to like football. And Robin’s gearing himself up to propose to Cherry, if he can come up with a suitably grand romantic gesture.
E04 Robin's Best Man
Robin and Cherry’s wedding approaches, but first there’s the small matter of Robin’s stag do. Rachel is quick to point out that the idea of stags and hens is very regressive. These days, a gender-neutral hag do is much more appropriate, and what’s more, as his sister, she’s known him longer than anyone. She should be best man. So begins Rachel’s attempt at throwing Robin and Cherry what is billed as the best hag do on earth.
E05 Cherry's Wedding Dress
Rachel’s competitive sister Penny and her husband Boyd are coming to stay in their massive new car, so Rachel is keen for the Jessops to project that they are happy and doing well. Meanwhile, Sue has sold her flat, Cherry is going wedding dress shopping, and Robin is seriously considering buying a disused munitions factory in Bulgaria.
E06 Mum’s New Tattoo
It’s a big weekend for the Jessops. Cherry and Robin’s wedding is on the same day as Paul’s police training graduation, Dean has big plans for Robin’s best man speech, Maya is moving in with Amy, Sam’s GCSEs are looming, and Rachel, despite her unusually low pain threshold, has decided to get a tattoo.
Series 3
E01 Mum and Dad's Anniversary
Comedy by Tom Basden. It’s Rachel and Paul’s wedding anniversary, and the family rise to the occasion with an array of gifts, including barbecues, an escape room experience and a Bulgarian smart speaker called ‘Tim’. Meanwhile, there’s a local crimewave, and in unrelated news, Paul has developed a rash on what he’s choosing to call his ‘upper thigh’ – all of which results in a particularly memorable wedding anniversary for Rachel and Paul.
E02 Mum's Bad Tooth
New neighbours are moving in next door, and Rachel intends to befriend them at any cost. Meanwhile, Sue has started bingeing on ultraviolent horror movies with her friend Prudence, and Paul is beginning to suspect he’s getting a reputation for being boring. Surely not. He’s a former Olympian, for goodness' sake.
E03 Robin's LARP Festival
Big news! Paul’s a mentor. He’s been buddied up with a young police officer called Lee, poor lad, and is preparing to impart some wisdom. Meanwhile, Rachel is helping Sam prep for his potentially incredibly dangerous Duke of Edinburgh expedition. And Robin is trying to persuade Cherry to join him for a live-action role-play weekend, where everyone dresses up as fantasy characters to drink mead and have sword fights in the woods, none of which appeals to a heavily pregnant Cherry. But the biggest challenge of all is faced by Sue, who can’t open a jar of gherkins.
E04 Our Trip to Liverpool
Rachel finds herself the victim of an online scam and decides to do the only sensible thing: track down and confront the scammers face to face. Luckily, Paul is a highly trained police officer, well suited to confrontations with potentially dangerous criminals. Meanwhile, Amy gets spotted by a modelling agency talent scout, which inspires Cherry and Robin to cash in on their new baby by getting him signed up for some child modelling too.
E05 Granny's Uno Hustle
Amy and her girlfriend Maya have been going through a bit of a rough patch, which is sad for them but great news for Rachel, who is keen to get some practice as a couples’ therapist. Meanwhile, Sue has been drawn by the seductive call of bingo. She’s entered a world of gambling and vice, and before long, she’s playing a high stakes game of Uno, which she must win at any cost.
E06 Dad's Red Cap
The Jessops are off to visit Rachel and Robin’s dad in Malta for the holiday of a lifetime. The only thing is, they all have quite different ideas about what makes a good holiday. Amy wants to paint the town red, Robin wants to try scuba diving, Paul wants to visit every historical monument in the guidebook, Cherry wants to chill by the pool, and Rachel wants to address some long-standing grievances with her father via the medium of lengthy and intense conversations about her feelings. It seems unlikely that everyone’s going to get what they want from the holiday, especially given that the swimming pool is out of order.
E07 Amy's Big Gig
Rachel and Paul are going to be baby Atlas’s godparents, so long as Paul can get himself baptised first. Dean has got an amazing new girlfriend, Katie, who also happens to be a personal trainer. It turns out that the secret to eternal youth is doing plenty of squats, so Rachel goes for it. Meanwhile, the newly single Amy is throwing herself into her music, getting ready to take to the stage at Bedford Battle of the Bands (BBOB) with her bandmate G (don’t call him Graham). Needless to say, Amy’s granny Sue is their biggest fan.
First broadcast: April 2022- July 2025
