In 1954, then at the zenith of her career, Johanna Martzy was convinced by Walter Legge to leave Deutsche Grammophon for Columbia, preluding a short but fruitful collaboration. Her first recording session was made with Paul Kletzki, and dedicated to absolute masterpieces of the German romantic repertoire with concertos by Brahms and Mendelssohn. Martzy’s version of Beethoven’s Romances is on top of the discography.
