Richard Stark is a pseudonym of mystery Grand Master Donald E. Westlake.
The first of 24 novels Donald Westlake wrote under the name Richard Stark introduces the coldhearted antihero named Parker, a career criminal who then appeared in 15 other novels. In this first caper, the newly freed ex-con, having been betrayed by his ex-partner and his wife, goes on a one-man campaign in pursuit of money and revenge
01 The Hunter aka Point Blank (1961) – John Chancer – 5hrs 01min
You probably haven’t noticed them. But they’ve noticed you. They notice everything. That’s their job. Sitting quietly in a nondescript car outside a bank-making note of the tellers’ work habits. Lagging a few car lengths behind the Brinks truck on its daily rounds. Surreptitiously jiggling the handle of an unmarked service door at the racetrack. They’re heisters. They’re pros, and Parker is far and away the best of them. In The Hunter, the first volume in the series, Parker roars into New York City, seeking revenge on the woman who betrayed him and on the man who took his money, stealing and scamming his way to redemption.
The Hunter became the classic 1967 movie Point Blank starring Lee Marvin. In this film he is called Walker.. Thirty years later The Hunter was adapted again by Hollywood, in the hit Mel Gibson movie Payback. The title, not the plot, has been used for other films.
There is a 25year gap between books 16 and 17 entitles, naturally, Comeback.
