Barely a year and a half after the successful acoustic album (2001), the 'king of swamp rock' comes with an album on which a more familiar band sound can be heard. Tony Joe White has established himself like no other as the representative of the swampy blues variety, which originated in the swamp-infested area around Louisiana. The lazy rhythms and bluesy guitar playing have a certain affinity with those other famous 'swampers' and singer / songwriter but it is White's muffled vocals that make the music unique. On his thirtieth album Snakey there are again ten songs that sound like they have been around for at least a hundred years but that in all their simplicity could only have been written by one man: Tony Joe White.
